Wherever you go there you are…

Musings of a Pathological Optimist

About

This is about exploring purpose. What it means to me and what I have to offer that might interest you. I’ve started this blog to give me a place to share my thoughts about the world, the places I’ve been, the stories I’ve collected, and the pictures I’ve taken along the way (I started my adult life in photo school). Of course, I might be talking to myself if nobody ever comes here but, in the end, it still gives me the outlet I think I need. Kinda like Sheldon’s Fun with Flags without the live feed…

I don’t want to take credit for the brilliant insights of others, so a couple of acknowledgements about my blog titles. Buckaroo Banzi gets the all the credit for “Wherever you go….”. One of the great movie lines of all time. If you haven’t seen The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzi Across the 8th Dimension you’re in for a bizarre road trip filled with truly deep philosophy: “The only reason for time is to keep everything from happening at once”. As for the pathological optimist bit, I blame (credit?) my wife Kathryn who has observed firsthand my well-developed ability to beat my head against the wall for years on end – somewhat cryptic I know, but you’d understand if you knew the real story.

In summary, and to frame it in the proper context, I want this blog to be thoughtful, irreverent, and sometimes playful. I’m not a sage, I don’t aspire to be a leader, and I try not to take myself too seriously. I am however intensely curious and passionate (those who know me might say sometimes too passionate…) about ideas. I needed an outlet. This is it. Sprinkled with my photography, past and present.
